snowy!
I don't get it. Can someone explain the joke of two fellows on a makeshift raft with metal barrels and the only thing they took to sea was a saw and a game of Battleship? THE BATTERIES IN BATTLESHIP WILL GET CORRODED BY THE SALT.
Oh! There is a red herring. That must be the joke.
[Maybe they're on a raft, not because they set out on one, but because they were playing real Battleship and their opponent evidently hit them and destroyed the ship they were in. -Jay]
Like those ancient Chinese block prints
Okay, so why is he sawing through the raft?
[He might be trying to fix the raft, I dunno...or maybe they were playing the old-school version on the raft, and the one with the saw lost the game and is so mad he's now dividing the raft in two. -Jay]
Terry! <3
I think the one is a sore loser, so he's gonna saw the raft in half to separate themselves. So the the other ones like This is why I only play online, playing with you is to emotional! or something like that. as for the setting, I have NO clue, but thats what I love about these comics, that undercurrent of absurdity.
;D Keep em comin jay! (or babylon sticks makers (or whoever))
The best jokes are the ones the owner of the website has to explin to each reader.
The guy shouldn't be sawing through the raft. That doesn't make sense.
I love Babylon Sticks. I always give the comics five 'shrooms, and I definitely want to see them keep coming.
That being said, I think this is the first one that, to me, kind of missed the mark. I can understand the concept, it just wasn't that well executed.
It would have been funnier, in my opinion, if one of them was clinging to a sinking battleship, while the other one looked on with a smug look on his face from a ship that was still floating. Something along those lines, anyways.
This one still gets five shrooms, just for being Babylon Sticks. :) I look forward to next week.
Yes! Snowy! I think it's awesome just for having a shoutout to Herge's Adventures of Tintin. The raft also looks like the one depicted on the cover of "The Red Sea Sharks." (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Sea_Sharks)
Sadly, this doesn't really make the joke any funnier. But so what! It still has Snowy (the dog)! And on top of that, I was just reading a Tintin story to my son.
I don't think I've found any of these strips funny.
Keep trying. I guess.
I love that whenever someone doesn't get the joke they immediately blame the artist. Poor James Francis is nice enough to do a comic series especially for JIG and all anybody can do is bitch about how unfunny or confusing or lame each one is.
And poor Mr. Jay, lord of casual gaming is far too busy and important (how's that for being a sycophant?) to be explaining jokes to people. Especially since the clue to understanding it was given in the first comment.
Just like with the BTTF arcade comic I am left reading the comments and pining for humanity. Mmm... pine fresh.
PS. I only read a few Tin Tin comics but I was addicted to watching the cartoon shown after school, in the early 90s. Anyone else from Australia remember it? Or anywhere else for that matter?
OMG. hes sawing off the raft so he can play REAL, like REAL REAL battleship. dont know exactly where they are going to get ammo though. its also an act of revenge probably.
any particular reason why there's a cute white dog floating on the water while holding on to a log?
@kathy Arlin nailed it - the picture is derived from the art in a Tintin book, so I added Snowy, Tintin's dog, as a reference to that.
