Aries Escape No. 19

If you're a longtime escape game fan, here's a little treat... Aries Escape's latest, Aries Escape No. 19, comes with an option to play in English instead of the former Japanese-only! As the game opens, you learn you've gotten invited to a favourite cafe you haven't visited in a while, which the owner promises has been renovated... into an escape situation, that is! To play, just click the arrows at the edges of the screen to move around, and watch for your cursor to change if it passes over something else you can interact with. That's right... Aries Escape is really pulling out the stops to make their game more user-friendly! Not that you won't need to wake up your brain to play, since with numbers and clues hidden everywhere, this is one cafe where puzzles are definitely on the menu... and then some!

Walkthrough/Puzzle Guide

0. (Wobbly picture)

There are two clues: one on a window, one in a book.

Bottom left corner of the window nearest the door has 57<- ->14

There's one clickable book on the larger bookshelf (left end of the bar).

Move the picture as indicated to reveal the all-important keypad.

right, bottom, top, right, left, bottom, left, top

1. Glasses

The clues are behind the bar and on the menu.

The menu (right end of the bar) has some glass shapes: red wine, champagne, highball, martini, on-the-rocks.

Look behind the bar (right side) and count the number of glasses of each shape.

wine: 4
champagne: 8
highball: 8
martini: 7
rocks: 6

2. Cards

Clues are on the napkin holders and the menu.

Each table has a napkin holder with a card suit shape cutout. Flip over each holder to see a number.

heart = 5
club = 7
spade = 3
diamond = 9

The menu (right end of the bar) has the sequence of suits.

heart, club, diamond, spade

3. Benches

When you look at a table, notice that there are arrows pointing to each side. Click the arrows to see a roman numeral and an arabic numeral.

Heart table: III-5, V-7
Club: VI-3, IV-5
Spade: II-9, I-8
Diamond: VIII-9, VII-4

Put the arabic numbers together in the order specified by the roman numbers.

89557349

4. Awning

If you look out the right-hand window at the back of the room, you can see a number on the outside of the awning.

Flip the number around (in your head) to get 6893.

5. Calendar

Take a peek at the December page of the calendar.

Some of the days have been marked with big black circles.

7th, 16th, and 28th, so the number is 71628.

6. Cups

The clues are behind the bar and under the welcome mat. (This is the only puzzle where colorblindness is a problem.)

Move the Welcome mat to see five colorful arrows pointing to the right.

cyan, red, green, orange, blue

Look at the teacups behind the bar (left side): some of them have colored stripes.

Count the number of each color.

cyan = 6, red = 6, green = 2, orange = 4, blue = 4

7. Math

While you're looking at the backwards numbers on the awning, notice that there's a clickable spot in the bottom right corner of the window.

Note the equation.

99×43−(221−13)÷16

Remember the order of operations to get the correct answer.

99×43−208÷16
4257−13
4244

8. FOOT

The clues are on the sides of the small bookcase (the one without any actual books, between the two windows).

The left side says FOOT = 3002. The right side says WELLMAX. What's the simplest way to get 3 from F, zero from O, and 2 from T?

Count the number of straight lines in each letter.

WELLMAX thus gives 4422432.

9. Ashtrays

There are three ashtrays (you can tell they're ashtrays because they have matchbooks in them) on the bar. Make sure to look at both sides of each one.

Each ashtray has a circled number on the top, and a 2 or 3 digit number on the bottom.

3 = 214
1 = 379
2 = 58

Put the longer numbers together in the order specified by the circled number.

37958214

10. TOILET

Flip down the sign on the restroom door to see a number.

205873

Happy End

Use the key on the door, but don't go out. What was there in the room that you couldn't open before? Maybe it'll open now?

Check out the small bookcase.

You can now pick up the lion statue. Flip it over to see a series of symbols.

¥ (yen symbol), * (asterisk), # (number sign), & (ampersand), @ (at sign), ? (question mark)

There's also an up arrow that didn't used to be there.

Move the plant to see some numbers (click to zoom in on them).

532614, each number in a circle. Previously, with the ashtray puzzle, numbers in circles gave the order in which to use some other numbers.

And behind the door which is now magically open, there's a green box with buttons.

Pressing the buttons makes symbols appear. Well, that gives you a place to use the codes you just found, doesn't it?

@#*?¥&

Ah, a new code! You know where that goes, right?

Get the Cafe Aries Member's Card from the slot. Now you can go out, happy in the knowledge that you will get unlimited club benefits. Or something.

I'm missing the 7th code

Reply

And I'm out with the happy end!

@Jazzer

Clue for the seventh code is below the clue for the fourth code.

Right window of the two.

Wow that was a lot of codes. At least there was no confusion about where to use each one.

Thanks Konrad!

A bit too small print for me ;)

Can I get a hint on the

WELLMAX

code? I haven't been able to locate a hint for decoding that yet.

Reply

It's near where you found the first part.

WELLMAX is on one side of the little bookshelf. What's on the other side?

It says FOOT = 3002 on the other side of the bookshelf (pay attention to the arrows that are available whenever you zoom in on something). What's the simplest way to get 3002 out of FOOT?

Count the number of straight lines: F has 3, O has zero, T has two. So WELLMAX becomes 4422432.

Thanks. I totally couldn't see the whole

straight lines

thing.

Stuck on the code for the happy end! I have the code from

the bottom of the statue, but entering that code on the green box doesn't seem to be correct (neither does the reverse of the code).

I must be missing something, but not sure what. I notice I haven't used

the torso!

Maybe that's the secret, somehow...

Reply

Billy-o, I'll help you and then hopefully you can help me as I'm stuck on that code too.

In the cupboard view where the statue is, there's an extra arrow.

But what I don't understand is

How did you arrive at numbers to enter for that code? It seems to be related to keys that have both numbers and those symbols, but there's no keyboard in the game, and I checked online and the Yen sign isn't even on a numbered key.

Reply

Thanks, ThemePark! That was the hint I needed. To answer your question,

the number sequence on top of the cupboard tells you the position in which you should enter the symbols into the green box. For instance, in my game (not sure if it gets randomized for each player), the first number is 5, so the first symbol on the statue (which was the yen symbol for me) should go in position 5 on the green box.

I hope that made sense!

When you enter the correct sequence of symbols, you'll get... yet another code! But you'll probably know what to do with that one. :-)

Reply

Thanks, Billy-o.

I hadn't thought of checking the cupboard, so I was convinced I'd have to convert those symbols to numbers somehow.

Reply

I was stuck for a while at the very beginning. I had explored the room and wrote down a bunch of numbers and symbols, but could not find anything that would react other than the picture.

I found...

The red book that seemed to give half of the clue for the shifting picture.

But where was the other half?

So then I re-read the description of the game by Dora. It mentioned how the cursor changes when you go over an interactive spot.

By looking around...

I found the second half of the shifting picture clue on the bottom of a window.

I felt that this game was just writing down numbers and entering them into the correct place. The trickiest bits were hunting down the clues/numbers. Too much cursor searching for me.

I got stuck and had to use a hint for the 7th clue/answer. I missed it not because it was a challenging clue, but because I simply skipped over it.

What is the code for first puzzle? Where can I find a hint for it?

Do you mean

the wobbly picture, or the top left light?

I don't remember the answer to the second possibility, but for the first:

There are two clues, one on a window, the other on a menu.

On the side of the room with the door, the middle window has a clickable spot near the bottom left corner. That's the horizontal clue. Then, on the right end of the bar there's a menu you can look at. It contains the vertical clue.

Combine the two clues to wobble the picture and reveal the keypad where you will enter all subsequent codes.

Reply

OK, so my memory was off in a couple of places.

The vertical clue is in one of the books on the larger bookcase, not on the menu. Also, the horizontal clue is on the window nearest the door, not the middle window.
