It's just a seven level early prototype, but if you've always wanted to help a game grow, Nutcase Nightmare's moody and morbid puzzle game Nothing to Hide is your chance, and an intriguing one at that. Think of it as a sort of anti-avoidance game, as you use the [WASD] or [arrow] keys (holding [shift] to run) to guide a girl through a series of dark mazes. The catch? You must always be within view of at least one creepy surveillance camera at all times, and if you're caught in the dark, well, the penalties are... severe. After all, what do you have to hide from? If you're not doing anything wrong, why would you want to be out of sight?
Though still very early in development, Nothing to Hide shows a lot of promise. There's something incredibly creepy about its design, and the absence of sound apart from a few simple sound effects adds rather than detracts to an atmosphere of menace. The security mechanic is a clever one, especially once the game starts allowing you to carry and place cameras of your own. Camera angles can, unfortunately, be very fiddly to nail, and the power-strips aren't easily distinguished in dark areas. Still, Nothing to Hide is the sort of game that, when finished, polished, and expanded on, could be a lot of fun... especially with a story and more variation. Play through the seven short levels and then fill out the short questionnaire below it to help the developer make it the best it can be!
I'd like to imagine the girl is carrying something incriminating in that bindle-bag. Whatever "incriminating" may entail.
Reached that last area in 7 but got killed when I stupidly picked up the beacon there. And I'd moved the one from the top left.
DAMN!
I don't think the platform is actually Flash -- it looks like pure javascript/HTML.
In any case, a very fun game mechanic and concept. I'd love to see it developed into a full game.
I thought the fiddliness of the camera angles was about right and the difficulty ramp up (so far) was good. There was something very 1984 about having to carry the camera around with you. Nice work!
Yes this is a pretty well done HTML5 game not flash!!!
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is me between the third and fourth surveillance cameras on level three. Cannot get past them so instead of declaring myself insane, I'm giving up. Well done and an apropos concept though, especially as we watch the NSA expand uncontrollably.
Just discovered that it's possible to skip to any level which is an awesome option, and one rarely seen in games.
Thanks for posting my game here, even though it's still a prototype! I've gotten a lot of playtesters and great feedback thanks to this JayIsGames post.
Also it's in HTML5, not Flash.
Can't get past Level 6, don't want to skip it. Help?
