BenFrog FractionstHere at Jay Is Games we're all about educating our readers. With that in mind, here is Frog Fractions, by Twinbeard Studios, a game in which protecting fruit from bugs will teach you all about fractions. And nothing else. Nope. (Parents and players, please take note of the game's "orange" rating.)

You play the game by pointing and clicking with your mouse to collect the bugs before they reach your fruit, and the knowledge grows within you as educational numbers fall from the sky. It's math, so you're learning! In between rounds, use the fruit to upgrade your frog, with the aim of buying the swimming pool to win the game. Retro edutainment at its finest... right?

As the game makes you smarter, you may realize there's more to it than first impressions suggest. While everyone's definition of depth is different, below the surface of Frog Fractions are some interesting surprises, and it's well worth sticking with the game past the early levels. It's not a game for the kids, but Frog Fractions is a parody game that can only be described as unique. Highly recommended if you have half an hour to spare, the game has plenty to offer, and an impressive soundtrack (available for download here) though it lacks replayability. And of course it makes you smarter.

Frog Fractions Walkthrough

Chapter 1: Little Frog, Big Pond

  1. Collect the flies & the fruit (between rounds) until you can upgrade to the dragon. This requires having at least the turtle and static cling unlocked, but any other upgrades are optional. You may find yourself taking a typing test at some point, but it's easy.

  2. The dragon can fly around the screen, but he can also swim. Dive underwater to find

    A huge stash of fruit!

  3. Collect a billion fruit, then upgrade the dragon with the warp drive.

  4. Fly up into space.

Chapter 2: Blast Off

  • Avoid the asteroids if you like. Technically, you can't lose in this part of the game, but it's more fun to play it properly.

Chapter 3: Warning No Refuge

  • Shoot the tentacles off the boss, then the core when it's available to target.

Chapter 4: Froggy's Day in Court

  1. Answer any way you like in the trial; again, it's impossible to lose this segment.

  2. Once you conveniently get the max score possible and avoid beign fired into the sun, it's time to get an ID card.

  3. Click and drag with the mouse to sign your name.

Chapter 5: Bug Mars on 50 Zorkmids a Day

  1. Back outside for more fractions! Dive into the Martian sea this time.

  2. Follow the underwater tunnels around, preferably with sound on in order to further your education.

  3. Eventually you'll find a spaceship, and its time for a trip out of Bug Mars.

Chapter 6: BlastOff Again (text adventure)

  1. Climb the ladder.

  2. Get the rug.

  3. Open the hatch.

  4. Go inside the room behind the hatch.

  5. Examine the machine.

  6. Get the paper.

  7. Get the electrical tape.

  8. Press the buttons.

  9. Pull the lever.

  10. Get the zorkmids.

  11. Examine the hole in the wall.

  12. Take the coffee cup.

  13. Put the tape on the wire.

  14. Put the cup on the machine.

  15. Press the buttons again.

  16. Pull the lever.

  17. Go back to the captain's quarters.

  18. Examine the nightstand.

  19. Open the drawer.

  20. Take the manual.

  21. Read the manual.

  22. Climb the ladder to the command room.

  23. Examine the controls.

  24. Press the New Destination button.

  25. Go back to the Captains room.

  26. Examine the bed.

  27. Fill the perfume dispenser with the contents of the coffee cup.

  28. Go to sleep.

Chapter 7: Living the Dream

  1. In your human dream, it's impossible to catch the bugs, and you'll be overwhelmed in no time.

  2. Unless you're a DDR pro, just mash the arrow keys to win the election.

Chapter 8: The Big Chair

  1. The aim here is actually to unlock the final upgrades. You don't need to worry about the porn trading minigame at all - just order your staff to print money each turn, and buy the last upgrades. One of them is a padlock, which you need to buy before you can buy the last upgrade.

  2. The final upgrade is a swimming pool for yourself. Great.

Chapter 9: Eyes Open

  • Dive under the surface to watch the credits. You won!

Chapter 5, where is the spaceship?

Unique doesn't begin to describe it. That's just about the oddest thing I've ever seen. Fun, but way, WAY strange.

I am totally sending this link to everyone I know and say it's the best game ever, very challenging but not frustrating, with elements of strategy and action and a little stealth in some levels

This was fun until my sound shorted out for whatever reason. I feel like I missed out on half the humor. :(

You know how, when Jay is Games features an April Fools' Day game or something, people in the comments section will start making stuff up, like 'how do I find the merman watching TV in the level about the history of boxing'?

This is that game.

This is the most hilarious game I have played in a very long time. But then, I love absurdist, surreal, and nonsensical humor.

Despite obviously being an intentional parody, the game hits a lot of the right notes towards feeling like a space-alien-produced, misguided attempt to create an educational game featuring ideas from other, non-educational games.

This is exactly how you make a game fun and awesome without making it at all challenging.

I'm naming my child Andre Phillipe Phillipe.

This game needs to let you buy more than one upgrade at a time. Other than that annoyance, it's pretty amusing.

This is even worse than Super Bogus World. I love it. (I also echo what Fred said)

Man, this game was amazing. It took me a while to figure out what to do in the first part, but in the meantime, those words in the spelling section were cracking me up. I couldn't stop laughing.

Well, that was a huge waste of time. I guess I only have myself to blame for wanting to see it through to the end despite not really enjoying it...

Reply

So, I honestly don't understand the fruit in the first level. The bugs eat them to make them smaller, but am I supposed to eat them before they do? Catch them when they fall? I don't quite understand.

Reply

Also--sorry for the double post--what is "indignity" and how does it increase?

Reply

Besides flies, there's some random crap later on in first stage, the boss and Martian pool. If it hits you, Indignity increases. Once it's full, you get a gameover.

Reply

the fact that I was watching The West Wing while playing made this at least 20% stranger

Reply

I loved this sooo much. Thanks to all the peeps that made it. Most absurdly fun game I've played in a while.

forget about fractions... the history of Boxing is where it's at!

This is definitely one of my favorite games ever. I have replayed it a few times and it is still hilarious. I only wish that it didn't lag so badly on my computer.
