ArtbegottiBig-Time Butter BaronAnother day, another dollar, another forty units of butter to ship. Working can be hard, but at the offices of the Big-Time Butter Baron, there's no shortage of puzzle fun. In this Tetris-like action puzzle game by Megadev, you've got to arrange boxes of butter on the shipping room floor, covering as much space as you can.

Use the mouse to move the next buttery block around the grid and click to drop it in place. You can also click the arrows on the right-hand wall to rotate a piece, or dump it in the garbage bin on the left. In every level, your goal remains the same; you've got to place forty units of butter on the grid. The more butter you can plot, the better, because the level ends when you can't place the next block. Any open spaces are filled in with junk boxes that disappear over time, but don't count toward your quota.

How long can you keep building bold, buttery bases before being bombarded by a blow-out of blocks?

A good idea spoilt by the isometric style which makes it tricky to drop tiles in the correct place.

It's just not... "fun." I don't know why, but I played through three levels and realized that I just have nothing to work for. I understand the whole tetris-puzzle aspect of it, but I just don't see a "goal" that I need to achieve other than completing the current level. And that's not much of a goal.

And sometimes I would place a block and it would just... disappear. What is that all about?

Hey Cornelius,

We tried to make the "goal" of filling 50% or more of the board as clear as we could, but perhaps we could have added more visual feedback. The reason that block you mentioned disappeared was because it was an "eraser" block - you can use these to erase any block on the board, including "blockers", which take up valuable space. Anyway, thanks for playing, and I hope things are a bit clearer now!

Cheers,

Mike.

I can't tell if that was brilliant or insane. I'm going to have to check back at a later date.

Megadev/Mike, do you have Forums?

I have to agree with Cornelius. the game didn't feel fun. maybe if there was more of a story and levels to progress through. maybe add a puzzle mode where parts of the board are blocked by the grey tiles on purpose and u have to figure out how to fill in all the spaces with the colored butter blocks. this game, bears little resemblance to tetris. besides the block shapes, it lacks to sense of urgency tetris has.

Hey Alexei,

We don't yet have forums on our site, but we'll put that on our todo list!

Cheers,

Mike.

Reminds me of Tetris which is excellent fun, but like Cornelius, I was not sure what the goal was until it was explained, plus unsure if rows had to be all one color... At one point, I thought my game was going quite well, but suddenly it was Game Over and Im not really sure why.

I really liked this--It's like a love child between Alchemy by Popcap and Ramparts by Atari.

As far as the story, there's the clever animations below--although they repeat after level.. 15? I don't know why my butter minions continue to throw parties if it always results in attacks of giant fish. After the fish are defeated, my workers go back to work, making me wonder that perhaps I am the evil genius behind the fish after all...

Not bad, I definitely enjoyed it. I don't know that I'll come back to play again, but it certainly was fun enough to play for half an hour. Great job Megadev/Mike

I do enjoy this game! One additional comment: When "Game Over" strikes, it would be most helpful if I could see my final playing screen to see what went wrong and learn from it. Instead, it's blocked by a pink board with my game stats, so I'm unsure how or why I messed up.

@jcfclark - that's a good point actually, and something we'll bear in mind for future releases and indeed future games. If your game does come to an end then that means you've run out of space and you didn't hit the 50% quota - perhaps we could make that clearer somehow. Anyway, glad you're enjoying the game, and I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Cheers,

Mike.

one of the better tetrisoids. i like the psychedelic living butterstick workers.

could use a tutorial level. it's hard to keep the many ways one has of fiddling w/ the blocks--eraser blocks, trash bin, etc & ect--in ones mind at first.

ps. the more you play this, the better it gets.
anyone who likes the surreal games--watch the undergame, it's hysterical. pretty much anyone at all should at least play through the rave level, the trout hallucination level, & the butter cops battling the trout hallucination level
