This edition of Weekend Download wants to look back to previous editions for inspiration. Problem is, can you really trust your hindsight? After Weekend Download played Hindsight, Weekend Download is not so sure! *bites nails*
Delta One (Windows, 7.6Mb, free) - A great stealth platform game that stars a former spy agent (who is also a mouse) named Eric. He's on a mission (his final mission) to kill the rat king, but nothing goes as planned. Hop around the lushly-colored world and use your knife to take out enemies from behind. You'll need to manipulate a lot of objects, such as boxes or dead enemy bodies, to hold switches so you can pass through doors. It's a great blend of action, stealth, and puzzle solving.
Hindsight (Windows, 11.4MB, free) - Don't you just hate it when you do something, look back on said event, and realize you could have done it so much better? Wouldn't you hate it even more if your hindsight played tricks on you? The premise of this unique puzzle platformer is that each level is the same, only it's totally different. Looking back on your previous actions, you discover things weren't as they seem. Or was the original layout the "real" one? Either way, each time you finish the stage, your path to the end secretly changes. You never know what's different until you move up to a block or fall down a gap. Spikes become not-real, blocks vanish, platforms appear. It's a strange and almost dreamlike game that will get you with a little trial and error gameplay. But it's so very worth it!
Everclimb (Windows, 3.6Mb, free) - Guess what you do in this game? You climb! Forever! Kinda! Designed to be a frustrating platform game, Everclimb from Magnesium Ninja puts you in an autoscrolling tower of platforms and enemies. As the screen moves from bottom to top, you must struggle to keep up, never falling behind and never getting too far ahead. Beat five levels of painfully difficult action and you'll be rewarded by being one of the few people who can actually do that!
Note: All games have been confirmed to run under Windows 7 and are virus-free. Mac users should try Boot Camp, Parallels, or CrossOver Games to play Windows titles, Linux users can use Wine. If you know of a great game we should feature, use the Submit link above to send it in!
Hindsight was really, really good. The gamejolt description says there are 60 levels, but I don't think they can be counted that way.
Thanks for the sharing, you once again found awesome games.
Being able to turn off amnesia in Hindsight once you'd beaten the game was really cool. It was sort of a "behind the scenes" look at the game.
Very stuck on Amnesia- level 7. What am I missing?
Got it, thanks. And I finished the game. VERY clever. The end was great, especially the final statistics screen with
amnesia off
Level 7:
Maybe try double jumping?
I REALLY hate level 8. I know EXACTLY what I must do, but the jumps are so finicky! The jump function doesn't want to work...
Arrggg...
And now I'm stuck on level...12?
VII?
Nevermind, I got it.
Yeah, playing with Amnesia off is neat. If you beat it again with Amnesia OFF, then you unlock playing with Toggle.
Cool, huh?
Delta 1 Would be a much better game if it didn't automatically launch you forward if you are jumping up to a ledge. Most of my deaths were because I found myself getting tossed into spikes after trying to hop up small steps.
Delta One has a lot of potential, but it's incredibly frustrating! I rage quit in a part with a box and two 'smashers'.. cross both smashers, take box, cross back the two smashers, drop box, cross the two smashers again. Not fun.
I really, really don't understand how to complete level eight on Hindsight. I can get to the far right, and I know I have to jump to the left, but no matter how many times I try, I just can't make it. Is there something I'm missing?
In Delta 1, one of the BEST things you can do is:
ALWAYS, and I DO mean "always" carry a box/deadbody with you. On that last screen with 3 guards? Bring along one of the bodies. That way, after you get the Orb of Time, you only need run that gauntlet once. You don't need to fetch the box, just drop the guard's body there.
And to get past the first time, make like you are going to run through and activate the Orb when you pass the crest of that safe space. Let your finger twitch slightly on the "X" key to let time speed up enough for the crushers to move out of the way. After that, you're golden!
Epic music for the boss fight!
And I *kind of* saw it coming.
But I thought the rat king would be Delta 1's brother, not
Alpha.
Ah, well.
Fun!
I found Hindsight annoying more than anything else but I did persevere to complete it. The game seemed to take great delight in consistently ignoring the jump key being pressed.
Is it just me or does Hindsight have problems detecting the up key? In level 8, it's murder.
Hindsight: "Oh, I'm sorry, did you jump? No, you didn't."
Further to the Hindsight jumping, it appears to be an intentional "feature". If you're moving and are part way off a platform it ignores the jump and you fall off the platform. The way around it is to inch yourself to be part way off then jump straight up before quickly moving left or right.
About the worst "feature" a platformer could have.
I played Delta, but I gave up on the boss fight. As it was said, the game has potential, but it needs some polish.
That fight... your character's a one-hitpoint-wonder and the boss' shots aren't coloured significantly differently from the boss itself, AND are this dull green colour that doesn't stand out much all by itself.
Then there's the problem that once you know WHAT you have to do, you need to do it about 20 times, perfectly, to win.
The jump function is just not responsive enough. Like other people I just couldn't get past level eight because the jumps are so precise that it's near impossible.
Hindsight also has potential, but the jump is too unresponsive.
My problem with Delta 1's boss fight was that whenever you picked up our knife again, the screen would darken and the words fill the screen.
I didn't have a problem telling the shots apart from the boss. Try *NOT* to get stuck in the corner hiding. VERY hard to run out or jump up the ledge.
