As we've previously featured, constant tweaks and additional features to this sandy webtoy make building a world and demolishing it more enjoyable each time. With multiple new elements to sprinkle into your world, you can experiment with how each reacts with one another. Lightning shatters glass into a fine dust. Metal can hold in exploding gunpowder and fireworks, but rust away with water. All sorts of chain reactions are possible by setting up your pixeled world and watching the sparks fly.
So, what will you do with your new can of powder? Send birds flying in a cyclone of acid? Play catch with bouncy balls and lightning? Grow your own planet one tree at a time? Build a pool of boiling acidlava and send stick figures in for a swim? It's a webtoy, so play around all you like! You can even save your creations and check out saved levels from other players. Your feature-added Powder Game 7 awaits!
Terrific timing! I was literally thinking just yesterday that I hadn't played Powder Game in a while, and was looking forward to seeing what's new. I can spend hours at this and not get bored!
I downloaded Java, but it still says that I haven't installed it! Help! :-(
You know, this could win first place in the CGDC competition! (If it hadn't been created 3 years ago)
Wow, I was just playing this yesterday. Now I wish I had waited a day to play it again.
Already this game is the 20th hottest game in the history of Jay is Games! (Powder Game 4 is 8th)
I love this game, and check weekly to see whether he updates it or Stick Ranger, which by the way hit v7.0 today. I think you guys should, if possible, somehow bump the game that gets updated each Friday so that it is on the front page and people can see it. Because sadly, the games just seem to get lost in the archives. Or maybe add it in to LDF? Just a thing at the bottom saying that i.e. Stick Ranger was updated to v7.0 today, with the addition of a new stage, and have a link. He updates one of the two every Friday, not to mention additional updates to the various new (free) iPhone/iPod Touch apps he has made. It just saddens me to see his great games lost to the point where people don't know about them anymore, until a year or two later when you guys re-review.
I played this game so frequently. Ive played it since version 4. I have a shortcut for it on my desktop. Honestly, it is not much news to me.
I still enjoy the credit given to this awesome physics game, with the game designers taking their time to improve and fix bugs of this game. I recommend this game to
People who enjoy Physics and playing around in sandbox games
I hope they will come out with more tools. I thought more animals would be cool, or people that you cant control, and don't continuously move around, kicking, but people that react to each of the tools individually.
KEEP IT UP POWDER GAME!!!!!!!!!
pcplague. It probably could still be entered since it is constantly updated and has its own official name.
Yay, they got my review request! Well, possibly not just mine. I'm glad to see it worked.
Yeah, I'm from Dan-Ball. I went there from here long ago, it's quite fun there, even if the community does beg for votes.
I wonder if the mobile games will be on mobile Monday. I included those and Stick Ranger in the review request, which I assume they received at this point, although I did send it awhile ago.
Plus we're finally working out a system of communication with Dan-Ball's mobile programmer, Otascube! We've already had an interview and everything. I'll save a link to that one in the event the mobile game or games make it on Monday.
what are seeds for?
You can place them in powder to make little plants.
Sorry about the second post, but you can also place it on a player's head so he can plant gardens.
Is there a way to make this full screen? or maybe a program that makes any flash game full screen? That play area has just always been too small for me to enjoy this game that everybody else loves.
[This isn't a Flash game, it's Java. Actually making the play area larger would significantly degrade performance regardless of whether it's Flash or Java we're talking about. You could try reducing the resolution on your monitor. That will effectively make everything larger, which is not much different than enlarging a Flash game to full screen. -Jay]
Anyway, this is one of the games that practically invented the more literal side of the Sandbox category, after the original Falling Sand Games. Therefore it is relatively old. Thus, unfortunately not eligible.
As to the full-screen, Jay is correct. Anyone that states otherwise (as I have seen in the past) is trying to scam you.
I just did send birds flying in acid tornado. Cruel but satisfying.
Is there some way to increase the amount of things you can put in the field? I keep on hitting the limit... =(
Guest: At the very bottom right of the game screen, you'll see "Dot S". The S means small, and you can also set it to Medium and Large. Large (40000 dots) is as large as it goes, unfortunately.
The game crashes if there are more than that. Must be a programming thing.
I came up with "Mad Scientist's Soccer". Two stick fighters play a game of soccer, and the loser gets set on fire. Juvenile, but it took me a while to figure out how to build it.
Put a flat floor of C4 in the middle of the screen. Then, just a short distance below it, place a flat line of Torch. There should be just enough space for a ball to fit between them. Now build ramps of Blocks around the torch to guide the ball into the gap. Also put a block in the middle of the C4 so that only one side explodes. Put some more blocks around so that the players don't escape. Now drop two fighters and a ball in there and let them kick it around. Eventually, it will roll below them, touch the torch, light on fire, and blow up one half of the playing field. This actually won't kill them, but landing on the Torch will.
Oh wow, I just found out that if you create a player, touch his head with a powder, and press down, he'll spit out that powder! You could have a guy breathing fire, water, or any powder (except stationary ones like C4, or weirdly behaved ones like Thunder). You can even get him to spit acid or magma, which kills stick figures, but you need to be careful. If it touches his head, he'll get that power, but if it hits anywhere else, he'll die.
You could probably build a game out of this. Try to defeat fighters by breathing fire? Build stairs to reach your destination? Spit seeds and become a gardener?
The game is just a black box. Does anybody know why?
[When it starts up, all you're given is a clear black slate onto which to draw of the elements listed below it. Other than that, the game requires Java. Make sure you have Java installed. -Jay]
Aegeus, you can also do that by left clicking player and right clicking the element. This game has been made many, many times. Simply search "Player Course" on the save data.
As for soccer, you can look that up on save data, too.
It seems you have rediscovered two of the most common forms of upload.
Also, you can apply elements to balls and fireworks, as well as players.
How do you make blocks that fire elements?
For more on player courses:
http://danball.wikia.com/wiki/Player_course
Blocks that fire elements? Do you mean Clone? Or Fireworks?
Has anyone else noticed how weird wheel + laser is? Put a wheel on screen, then use a large pen and put a bunch of lasers on top of it. Clone weirdness?
Sorry for double post, but the wheel needs to be spinning.
Yes, that is a common glitch known as a mega-laser (unofficially). It is actually very useful in many ways.
Watching little pixels interact should NOT be this addicting and fun. And yet I've been playing it for 3 hours and I'm not yet bored...
Aegeus, can you please link me to such a game? I'm having trouble understanding.
Put a small metal ball to screen, ants on it, wait for a few minutes, then enjoy playing with thunder and "electric circuits".
switch background to toon and do laser with clone for awesomeness
@Rad, here's what I'm talking about:
i like planting trees and then setting them on fire
Although powder game 7 has been out for months, it's still good to see it reviewed here, as it offers much more than the reviewed powder game 4 :D 5/5 ofcouse :3
aegeus your awesome
Powder Game just keeps expanding and expanding. It's like it is changing into different games, slowly, over time.
I prefer falling sand game. This game, for my tastes, has too many elements and not enough pixels.
"For more on player courses:
http://danball.wikia.com/wiki/Player_course"
Wow, the first picture on that page is the course I made years ago. I feel so proud of myself. =]
Set down two platforms of clone, one on top of the other. Use ice on the one above, and vine on the one below.
Set fire to the vine.
Watch what happens.
Awesome. Who knows, maybe Ha55ii will have a player-course-esqe game someday. They sure did it with fighter drag courses.
The method in the post above is excellent for producing random sculpture type things, although I sort of prefer fan. Much simpler.
This, I must say, is a lacking review. I have made a fully functional, addressable, writable, readable, re-writable, 8 bit, laser powered RAM in the Powder Game. It's only a matter of time until somebody creates a simple computer in the Powder Game. There is more than meets the eye to this game..
@Micro Farad: Send "GET" code for your RAM!
How do you make logic gates in Powder Game?
Using this game, I think I've figured out the answer to the BP oil spill! According to this, we just need concentrated lightening... or fire. Try it out! Now if only there were powder fish and animals. :D
I think it would absolutely amazing if I could download this program and upload saved files as screensavers. I could watch this all day
Well, you always have video recording.
if you put nitro on a players head and press down, he flies up as if he has a jet pack
@Micro Farad: That RAM definitely sounds... interesting. O_o Do you happen to have the save code so we can see?
I cant get the game to work D: i just get a black box, and the options for the powders aren't there. On internet explorer the javascript does the loading thing, but everything other than that freezes until I close it.On firefox, i just get the black box. help?D:
hi i have been playing for a while and if you left click ball and right click acid then put it in the screen you have a indestructable killing machine
from Mr Anonymous
Powder game is awesome! I go on it every single dang day. It's so addicting. I actually discovered it from a website about pointless sites. Sure, it's pointless, most online games are. But who cares? =D
What is spark for?
spark is fire without the wind it creates
try this right click and left click on air if you right click on the screen it does the opposite if your left click on the screen it takes air instead of blows it
I LOVE the new thermal view :D
I haven't noticed if anyone else has tried it yet, but putting water on vines makes some really nice floating lakes. :D
If you dump magma in the thermal view, it makes sort-of a rainbow. It looks cool.
Yay! New element - fuse!
how long has PG been around?
i made a few files i want to upload but i can't figure out how to delete them... so i have to exit i have a file on dan-ball but i can't upload a file
This is kind of cool...
What does create do?
what do i do with the code they gave where do i put them
Incidentally, I find that a simple transistor can be made with two intersecting metal lines. When thunder flows through one of the metal lines, it prevents thunder from flowing through the other line.
P.S. To load a code, copy and paste it into into the box entitled Save Game above the playing field and click Set.
A bubble blower. Just erase the middle line and enjoy.
NOTE:
You have to ignite some nitro in the space under the bubble blower to create some air pressure. Then you have to erase the top line completely, and then the middle line completely.
Make a line of Clone that stretches all the way across your screen. Then put S-Ball on it. Watch.
The game itself won't load for me; all I see where the game is supposed to be is the background.
[The game is Java. Make sure you have the latest Java installed and enabled. -Jay]
I can't highlight the whole codes. Help please?
Try mixing cloud and metal! And by the way, Grace, create is kind of a clone for players/fighters/boxes/balls. Useful for spawnpoints and checkpoints in levels.
This was one of my most favorite games ever. Then they have this download latest java link. I wish it didn't
Fire + Ball = Anti-gavity Ball?
i went to go download java, but then it said something about mossysky. is this ok?
[I have no clue what mossysky is. Make sure you are installing it from the official Java site: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp -Jay]
powder game is v. 9 now, mini-map available!
Update
