GrimmrookBeing One Lab EscapeYour eyes open on a green tinted scene in a nightmare. As bubbles slowly meander upward through your field of vision, the details of a dark laboratory etch themselves into your consciousness from just beyond some sort of glass casing. After desperately flailing about with the unit's internal locks, the viscous green fluid that envelopes you suddenly drains away and your transparent prison no longer holds you captive. This is the world of Psionic's Being One.

In this first episode you find yourself aided by an unknown benefactor, set loose upon a place where strange experiments have been conducted on humans and some... things that are decidedly not human. Your goal is to escape the laboratory, possibly discovering details about your confinement, as well as the identity of your unnamed ally in the process.

As is this case with most of Psionic's games (such as Ghostscape), Being One is one part point-and-click adventure, one part room escape, and one part hidden object game, though it should be pointed out that the hidden object elements may not be as strong here as they were in past offerings. Use your mouse to find items and solve item-based puzzles. Meanwhile, navigation is as simple as clicking on the yellow arrows that point to various landmarks.

With a dark setting and foreboding story, Being One promises to be Psionic's most intriguing and earnest effort yet. There appears to be a more concerted dedication to storytelling here than in Psionic's already engrossing portfolio of work. But while its plot and production values point to incredible promise, this first episode is quite short, making it feel more like a prologue than anything else. Still, if the rest of the episodes are as well built and executed as this, Being One will definitely be a series for point-and-click fans to keep their eye on.

  8. By the fire extinguisher, there is a dustbin. Click on it and get the sample tube (2) before returning to the main view.

  9. A little bit below the navigation arrow to the right, there's another sample tube(3), go ahead and pick that up. Now turn right.

  10. To the left of the chamber below the navigation arrow is a sample tube, pick it up (4).

  11. To the immediate left of the chamber is a tripswitch. Click on it to get to a close up view. Once there, continuously click on the end of the arrow until it is in the full on position and the lights are glowing green. Return to the main view.

  23. To the left of the doors is another tripswitch. Activate it the same way you activated the last one. Turn right again.

  24. There is a sample tube on the lower shelf directly below the left most monitor. Pick it up to bring our total up to 7.

  25. The third and final tripswitch is just to the left of the fire extinguisher there. Throw it like the others and return to the main view.

  26. Turn right. Off to the right there is a closed cupboard click on it to get the eighth sample tube. Return to the main view.

  27. Use the left most arrow to return to the lab table. Click on the sample Analyzer.

  29. Click on the computer. To log in, use "angel" as your password.

  30. Read all the reports, but pay special attention to the specimen 3 report. At the bottom of this report, there is a code: 1259. Now go back to the red room with the access to the sample chambers.

  31. Click on keypad 3 and enter 1259 and click okay.

  32. Pull the power cable on the right, return to the main view and close out of the text message.

  33. Now go back to the computer. Login (the password should automatically be entered already), and this time click on the bottom most link "activate door".

  34. WARNING: Once you go through the double doors, there is a point where you can die. You will be able to restart should you die, but now is the time to choose whether you want to read ahead in the walkthrough, or try it on your own.

  35. Return to the double doors, and exit the lab.

  36. To defeat the mech, you must first turn four handwheels. There are two on the left hand side that are lined up almost vertically with each other. On the right side, they are horizontally aligned each above the machinery unites. When you have turned all four handwheels, you need to throw the red switch that is marked by a lightning bolt sign. This switch is on the very left edge of the screen.

  37. With the mech defeated, you can click on the arrow in the middle of the screen to "move on".

  38. Congratulations, you have beaten the game!

Pretty easy to be honest. I'll let someone else write a walkthrough, as I am usually the type relying on them!

My score = 789000. Lower = better, apparently. :P

Excellent looking game, although I found the puzzles to be very straightforward.
Looking forward to the next ep!

pretty easy, but very interesting.. i liked it ... didnt use a walkthourgh ;P got lower=better score too (whatever that means)

Anyone else having the screen just flash green and do nothing after finishing step one of the walkthrough?

Finished with a final score of 185000. I'll agree it was easy but it was enjoyable and the story is intriguing. I'm looking forward to Ep. 2.

Enjoyed! Sometimes it's nice when it's not too hard.
Thought the atmosphere was quite good.
Looking forward to the next one!

No pixel hunt, nice 3d renderings (nicer than the usual, at least) and an immersive story (even if not that original) with unanswered questions makes this interesting enough to make me wait anxiously for the next episode!

However..

The puzzles were a little uninteresting, though. Actually, there are no puzzles.. finding all samples or finding all codes are not examples of puzzles in my book :P The big robot in the last part didn't add anything to the experience. clicking everything that is clickable on my screen, before the life runs out, seems like a weak attempt to add some action to the gameplay.

Reply

I like the detail of putting images on the foreground. Adds that extra touch of dimensionality.

Reply

i can't get the game started. it preloads then when i click Ready it takes me to another screen, then it takes me back to the original screen saying it's 100% loaded but yet the bar shows a tiny yellow line and no begin button or anything.

Reply

never mind. guess this works better in firefox, because the above is when i tried it in IE. oh well.

Reply

Experienced just what Paul mentioned two comments above me. PC, Win7, IE 8. Instead of Firefox I tried Chrome and it works.
Strange to see a game that seems to loathe IE and like Firefox and Chrome and not the other way around.

Got a bug where i clicked the key from the inventory and can't release it anymore from the selection ! Can't take any other object since. Guess I'll play the non-beta version when it'll be up.

Easy, but not annoyingly so, rather a comfy room escaper. Great graphics, very player-friendly gameplay. No need of walthru. High score from me.

Looking forward to the sequel.

PS: I wonder if it'll mean something in the sequels that

specimen 2 seemed to give me a rather hard and penetrating look.

It didn't seem to effect gameplay at all - and I guess there's just no way to avoid it, is there? :D

I really liked this game. The atmosphere was one of the best I've seen, and the puzzles were just the right difficulty for me. I used only partial help from the walkthrough. There was, however, one thing that subtracted from the experience:

The robot at the end wasn't very good. There should have been something like a bare wall instead of the robot, and you had to hack into the computer to deactivate it...

Overall though, a very good game. Can't wait for episode 2!

Dan, the game just flashing green and not letting you out near the start? That happened to me too. Killed the whole game for me, really.

Reply

Well, this is interesting. Nothing happens when I try to open the capsule, the screen turns green and goes back to where I was, And I did release the locks and reconnect the wires like you're supposed to

Reply

Oh! It was because I turned the sound off :P

Reply

The game looked beautiful, however it didn't feel much like a game and more like the prologue to an interactive story

Reply

I can't even get into the game at all. Kongregate's home page won't even work for me. I guess I should go to bed and try tomorrow!

Reply

Fun, easy, and creepy.

Worked with Chrome for me (but not FF, IE or Opera). Huh.

Reply

Liked it, adding a little hidden object style gameplay to a room escape worked well.

Something I didn't like:

The boss battle on a tight timer didn't add to the game and must have taken a decent amount of effort to create along with the video ending.

Reply

hmm.. I played with Opera (9.62) without any problems.

Reply
Monkeybelly July 7, 2009 7:17 PM

It works if you go to the newgrounds link rather than playing through kongregate.

Reply

I hate playing on Kongregate anyway, that stupid chat box on the right really annoys me.

Ooh, I played this one not too long ago--loved it!

Great game, even if short. Mostly I enjoyed being able to complete it by myself! However, I hope the second part has more of a puzzle aspect to it, since this one was more of a "just look around and you'll find the answer" kind of thing.

Wonderful graphics and an engrossing, if typical, storyline. Particularly liked the "There is no escape!" messages - very Portal.

I got 490009 lower=better (the lower better thing means the lower your score the better you did)

How to get the blue access card?

Reply

Maya -

You need to:

Open the door to the third specimen (the one on the right) and unplug it. Then you will get the blue access card.

Reply
DiSannnn July 27, 2009 6:00 AM

what's the pass of the third?

Reply

Loved it! Can't wait for #2! I didn't really like

The boss at the end, though.

@Disannnn:

You get the password by finding all 8 samples, then getting into the computer. Look at what the computer says on Specimen 3, and you should find it.

Reply

wow I REALLY loved this game!!! the atmosphere of the rooms reminded me of portal.

the robot at the end gave ma a jump when it fell. I didn't expect a point and click boss fight...

anyway, great game *<(:-)

Reply

well, something that could of made the robot better was if it chased you down a hallway. you also should of previously assembled a weapon in the lab, (like a gun or a pocket knife.) you could have a ridicule every time you equipped it. you could then fine some weakness in the robot's armor every time you went down a hall way. if you shot the droid, then it played the cut seen. could that added some action? just a suggestion...
