Weekday Escape

JayOne of the more disappointing aspects of escape the room games is that there are so many that appear but relatively few of them are worthy of your time. We try to highlight only the best of the best, which still results in a less than 'exceptional' experience from time to time, but Weekday Escape is here to save the day!

Dr. Ichie's Room screenshotThis week's feature is Dr. Ichie's Room, an exceptional and straightforward game from Japan that fortunately includes a (rough) English translation for most of the descriptions and explanations it contains. From Bianco Bianco, the same team that created Mystery House: Escape from Beginning Room, the graphics it contains are polished and appealing, and there are no pixel hunts necessary. Only once is there a leap from logic—something appears only after you complete a puzzle. Other than that one minor issue, the game is a solid escape game experience and is highly recommended for fans of the genre. If you don't usually care for this type of game, you're not likely to change your mind as this offers a fairly standard, even though exceptional, game play experience.

well, i'm already stuck i have:

a cylindar, remoote, candle, "black object", a long stick.

Reply

I'm close, I just can't seem to find the match!

Reply

Found something:

If you zoom in on the picture with four symbols, you can click the sides and look at them from different angles. I believe they look like numbers from a certain angle. This corresponds to the code spot on the side of the couch.

Reply

There is also a key and a battery:

It's to the right of the green stool, on the floor.

Open the locked drawer and obtain the battery.

I'm thinking the battery needs to go in the remote, but I can't manage to combine them.

Reply

I have

solved the puzzle on the side of the couch and got a key. I think it is the key to the door since The only other item I have that is selectable is the remote, and there are not other keyholes that I can find, but it won't unlock the door

@Pupster

Double click the remote to view it, then click on the battery to "pick it up", and click on the hole at the bottom of the remote to put it in.

OUT!

Reply

to pupster

double click the remote so you are looking at it, then click the battery, and click on the remote where the battery should go

I've also got a dvd

it's between the side of the desk and the wall

now I've

put the dvd in the player using the remote, played it (strange rearranging of colours) then when I went back to get the dvd back, I only got a lighter, though I can't seem to light the candle

now I'm stuck

Reply

OK here's what I have so far

when you first get in the game click the table an pick up the remote

Then move back and click on the desk to the right, click the far left bottom corner and pick up the dvd. Also pick up the Reflective tube from the top of the desk

then move right to the window, click on the shades. The left one containes a candle the right one has a "Stick" at the top by the curtain rods

then turn right again and click in the lower right corner where there is what looks like a flower, pick up the key.

then turn left and face the t.v. click on the dvd player and pick up the weird stand located by it

the turn right back to the flower on the floor and place the weird stand, then the stick on the weird stand, then the reflective tube on top of that, then the candle inside the reflective tube

now click back and move left or right twice till you're facing the door again, now click on the dresser to the right and unlock the drawer with the small key, pick up the battery

click the remote and put the battery in the front of it

now turn right and face the tv, click on the dvd player and use the remote to open the dvd slot and place the dvd

now click back to where you're facing the tv and use the remote to hit play, you will see a series of blocks flip and arrage remember which colors are where

That's as far as I've gotten. Hope you can figure it out or wait till someone gets farther than I am!

"Black object"

Goes on the X where you found the key

Next to the round stool (right side)

Long stick

Goes in black object once placed.

Cylinder

Goes on stick once placed in black object (notice a pattern here?)

Candle

Goes in cylinder after........

Battery

Goes in remote. View remote and then place it. Make sure you're clicking the battery and not the candle (did that once)

Remote

Used to open drive when close. Used to play when back

Big leap

Open the window curtains, and grab the candle sitting on the left side. (Looks like a thin line of white.)

Grab the pole sitting on top of the window, just above the curtains.

Take the black "stand" and put it on the patten on the floor to the left of the coloured shapes on the wall. Put the pole in the stand. Put the odd tube thing on top of the pole. Put the candle in the tube. Light the candle with the lighter. Look at the coloured shapes now.

Reply

melak

Candle must be in the tube before you can light it....very linear.

Reply

Using the lighter I was able to light the candle which gives you the code for the couch. Dont forget to swap the numbers according to the DVD colors. But after that I can't seem to find what to do!

Thanks zero. Your comment about the black thing really helped me along. I was able to get everything on my own after that. So close to doing it on my own, but I'm done now.

Got the code:

9542 (combo of numbers on wall and the DVD color switcheroo). Entered it into the couch, and got a nonsensical word. Nothing happend!

Reply

pupster

the nonsensical word means you got it right, now look under the couch

I must say though, the bit at the very end with

the keyhole in the wall by the bucket just appearing kinda annoyed me

Here's what happens

a key falls under the couch

Watch the DVD and record the order of the colours. (I got Y G R B both times)

Enter the combination (in the same order as the colours) on the left side of the couch (so, 9 5 4 2)

Get the key under the couch

Use the key on the wall behind the garbage can

Exit :)

Questions after the game is finished.

Any idea what the painting above the desk is used for?
Any idea if you can use the NEIRO device below the DVD player?
When finished, I was listed as a "GOOD End", might there be different endings?

Out. I needed a little help, but overall, it was pretty straightforward. There were a couple of some annoying little "cheats" though such as the fact that

you can't use the buttons on the side of the couch to input a code until you actually reveal the numbers.

I guess that's OK, seeing as you would really just be guessing or skipping ahead in a walkthrough if you did it any other way, assuming the code isn't random for each player. But i really do think it's unfair that

the keyhole behind the wastebasket isn't there until you get the key at which point it "magically appears.

Still, not so hard that stuff like that was really annoying. Reasonably fun little time waster.

Reply

Yay... another without down without using a walkthrough... thank you Jay for stating there was at least one illogical step (but not many).
I think there were around three... but only one was actually confusing...
Anyway... not bad Escape game... certainly better than average but not too special.

I'm only getting a black screen! Is there another way I can access the game Jay?

Reply

For those of you that missed the animation from the DVD, you can play it again any time by going to the view that shows the TV and pressing "play" on the remote (even after the DVD is no longer in the player).

Sheer_Cold October 9, 2008 3:29 PM

The onomatopaeia that the japanese use are weird.

"GACHAT"

"POTRIT"

Confusing. :P

Reply

Well, not the first time poor English means an extra obstacle. A lighter that is called "writer" won't be recognized as a writer - at least not by me.
Also, that "leap of logic" Jay mentions - that something appearing only after solving a puzzle - I guess that's simply a game design mistake.

Reply

Not bad. A bit easy though, mind, saying that I don't think I'd have found the keyhole if Jay hadn't mentioned the leap of logic in the review.

Reply

that is a hard game i dont think i would of ever made it without the walkthrouh

Hi , you know the remote control for the DVD player? When i press play nothing happens. Someone please help me!!
xx Thanks!

Reply

No leaps of logic? Getting a lighter from a DVD tray and then after the DVD you've just stuffed in it magically disappears? If that ain't a leap of logic...

Reply

Bleh. Lots of pixel-hunting and fridge logic.

nerdypants August 24, 2009 6:07 AM

For the DVD player:

Is there a battery in the remote?

Is there a DVD in the DVD player?

And yeah, these leaps of logic are pretty wild.

The lighter in the DVD player and the keyhole behind the trashcan particularly.
