Weekday Escape

JessWelcome, friends, to the first edition of Weekday Escape, your own personal portal to the wonderful world of point-and-click! Every Wednesday I will be presenting one or more such games to ease you through the dull middle point of the work week. And what an auspicious beginning for the column...a new, beautiful game has just been launched by Neutral, creator of some of the most highly rated and anticipated room escape games here at JIG! How serendipitous.

SwitchSwitch confines you once more within a stunningly rendered room (this time, it seems, a child's playroom?) and dares you to unlock its mysteries. Use your point-and-clicking fingers and your logical puzzle-solving skills, and be prepared to bend your mind and come to your wit's end before managing to escape.

We will be back with a more comprehensive review just as soon as we finish it ourselves. In the meantime, do help each other in the comments, ok? Ok!

Play Switch

The Neutral servers are, not surprisingly, under heavy load right now, so if you get a "Service Unavailable" message, wait a few moments and try again. Eventually you will get in.

Cheers to Martha for first word about this new game from Neutral! =)

Banner credit goes to Mat of Nitrome, whom we commissioned to come up with a smashing good banner for our new weekly feature! Cheers, Mat! =)

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough

  • Zoom in on the table next to the couch. Click on the book and pick up the piece of paper. Zoom out.

  • Click underneath the couch. Pick up the stick. Zoom out.

  • Click on the couch. Note the tiny triangle on the top of the couch on the left side of the screen. Click on it. Pick up the star.

  • Zoom all the way out and click on the tree. Notice the green square on one of the leaves on the upper right side of the screen. Pick it up. Zoom out.

  • Move one screen to the right. Click on the yellow box. Notice the piece of paper now visible behind the red box. Click on it and note that the arrow points to the eighth track in front of the train. Zoom out.

  • Click on the ball in the lower right portion of the screen. Click on the bulge in the carpet. Get the blue triangle. Zoom out.

  • Move one screen to the right. Click on the train. Click on the eighth track from the front of the train.

  • Examine the train track. Click on it again -- it becomes a key. Zoom out.

  • Move one screen to the right. Click on the drawers in the middle. Click on the middle drawer (it is unlocked). Get the green piece of paper.

  • Use the red key to unlock the top drawer. Get the scissors. Zoom out.

  • Click on the trash bin on the right side of the screen. Notice that behind the drawers there is another stick. Get it. Zoom out.

  • Click on the "device with wheels" on the other side of the drawers. Cut the string with the scissors. Get the string.

  • Combine the two sticks and use the string to tie them together.

  • Zoom out and move two screens in either direction. Click on the trapdoor on the ceiling.
Use the elongated stick to open the trapdoor.

  • Go back down and click on the yellow box which now contains a pink key. Get the key and zoom back out.

  • Click on the red box and use the pink key to unlock it. Open the red box and click on the Origami book.

  • Open the Origami book and keep turning pages to the right until you reach the orange key. Get it and zoom back out.

  • Click on the blank green piece of paper in your inventory. Now that you know origami, you should be able to make a swan out of the paper just by clicking on it repeatedly.

  • Move two screens in either direction and use the orange key to open the bottom drawer. Get the hammer. Zoom out.

  • Use the hammer to hit the piggy bank. Keep hitting it -- at the fourth smash a coin will pop out. Zoom out.

  • Click on the trash bin. A coin now appears on the lower right. Get it.

  • Examine both sides of the coin. A three-digit number will appear on the other side (different each time around). Zoom out.

  • Click on the big drawer on the right-hand side of the screen. Click on the lower left corner of the drawer and input the three-digit number from the coin.

  • Zoom out and open the drawer that you just unlocked. It appears empty. Click on the upper section of the inside of the drawer and get the circle taped to the top. Notice that you now have all four shapes. Zoom out.

  • Click on the wheel device and put the shapes in their appropriate places. Click on the device to open it and get the pliers.

  • Zoom out and move one screen to the left. Click on the fish painting. Click on the nail. Use the pliers to remove the nail.

  • Zoom out and click on the painting. It should fall down. Click on the white outline.

  • Place your origami swan in the outline. Zoom out and click the big button above the swan. The area should light up.

  • Click on the first piece of paper you picked up-- the one with the grid on it. Examine it and click on it to see the other side. There are four animals that correspond to buttons you have to push in a particular sequence.

  • The first button is the "fish" button, located above the swan. Push the button.

  • The second button is the bear button. You can find this button by clicking on the teddy bear inside the train tracks. Push the button.

  • The third button is the dog button. This can be found by clicking on the painting of a dog that is sitting on the drawers. Push the button.

  • The final button is the swan button. This is located on the wall opposite the origami swan, specifically right at the point of the long wingtip of the projected swan image. Peel back the wallpaper and you'll find the fourth button. Push the button. The room should now darken.

  • Move one screen to the left and click on the big drawer on the left side. Open it and you will find a button grid.

  • Here you will need to refer to the grid that is drawn on the paper you picked up first. You need to click the buttons that correspond to the boxes that are NOT shaded. Plus, the projected sequence that is controlled by the buttons is flipped HORIZONTALLY so you need to take that into account as well.

  • After you have inputted the correct button sequence, insert the coin into the slot. If the coin does not come back out, you got the code right.

  • Zoom out and move two screens in either direction. Get the key from the string (You'll need to click it twice).

  • Zoom out and move one screen to the right. Use the key to unlock the door and...

  • You win!

Like all of Neutral's games, they look great. But I find myself stuck on this one the same way as the others. With a bunch of items that don't have obvious answers. My sense of logic doesn't seem to work very well. Hopefully people will start playing soon as well.

Reply

I've found the

orange star, green square and blue triangle

. I'm obviously still missing the

red square

. Where is it?

Reply

Yeah, service is indeed unavailable. Been trying ot for some time now but no success yet...

Keep trying.

It's been 30 minutes since I've started waiting, and all I can say is "CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL SERVERS". Back on the matter, the game looks beautiful and Neutral is known for his great games, so I can't wait until the servers get cleared up.

Reply

I have no idea what to do now

i have some green paper with animals and a pattern, a blank green sheet of paper, and two wooden sticks. i already put the star and triangle in the box thing. can some one help please

Reply

So much for lunch break. Darnit. Maybe tomorrow? Their games are worth waiting for.:)

Reply

Where do you get the

Circle

Anyone have some sort of walkthrough?

[Edit: The game has just been released today, so you're among the first to play it. -Jay]

Reply

Game looks very fun,and great idea on Weekday Escape ;) .

Reply

It was fairly easy. On Neutral's website he doesn't even consider it full escape game, he calls it a 'simple escape'. It was mostly logical, but the difficulty relied on pixel hunting mostly.

Reply

Yeah, fairly easy, ask if you're stuck, maybe I can assist you.

Reply

Long time gamer, first time poster.

The server is overloaded.

Guess, we'll have to wait.

Reply

Welcome Dave! Just hit refresh a few times and you should get through :)

Reply

Gotmilk, I am at the same place as you...

how do I get the circle and square?

Reply
Shuffledog June 25, 2008 2:20 PM

I think they might have changed the URL. I went to their homepage and got through no problem.

[Edit: The URL has not changed, it's just by mere coincidence that you were able to get through a different route. My attempts to reach the homepage were met with the same "Service Temporarily Unavailable" — which means the server is just too darn busy at the moment. -Jay]

Evan:

The square is in the tree's leaves.

Don't know where the circle is. I suspect

it's in the red box, but I don't know where the key is.

Reply

Rut-ro... 503 - Service Temporarily Unavailable.

Have the JIG community put the Switch into overload?

Reply

Not very hard. There is one small step that will open up the entire game.

Reply

I also think that the

green paper with the animals on it tells you what order to push the buttons in,

but I still can't figure out

how to get the nail out of the fish picture or where the chicken (fourth one) is

Reply

We certainly can't take the blame for that, Zeke.

It's more than likely due to the sparkling reputation of Neutral's own games.

Shuffledog June 25, 2008 2:30 PM

Okay, I have

found and placed the star, square, and triangle. I found the first key and opened a drawer. I have the two sticks, blank green paper, scissors, and paper with diagrams on both sides.

And I'm stuck. Not sure where to go next. Hints would be great.

Reply

Shuffledog, where did you find the

key?

A new feature hits JiG, and what a way to start it off! With a real gem. ^^

Now I just hope that the servers will feel better soon (maybe some chicken soup will do them good) so I can actually play this game.

And with a name like WeekDay Escape (brilliant name, btw ^^) I hope this will mainly be about room escape games, a somewhat looked down upon genre, that I enjoy very much.

If you look behind the red box

The square is in the tree

The star is wedged into the back of the couch

You will see a diagram showing a piece of train track that can be removed

Examine the piece of train track more carefully

It will give you a key to one of the Drawers

Now you'll have scissors to cut something with

Cut the string on the wooden train.

There are two place to take sticks from...

If I remember correctly one is under the couch and one is under the dresser

Now you can combine objects

Combine the sticks and then combine them with the string.

Now you have a really long stick maybe you can use it to reach somewhere

Use it on the ceiling above the red and green boxes to get the pink key to open the red box

Now you have a book... make sure you look through it throughly

Now you should have another key that opens the orange drawer

Hmm the book was about Origami... I wonder if you have something to make origami with...

Use the Origami book to turn the green paper into a crane

More as I get it!

[Edit: 4red3s, reload the JIG review page and try the game again using the revised links. Neutral just changed the server's behavior for referral links and is no longer allowing sites to link directly to the "play" page with the game on it. You have to come into the info page for the game first, then click Play. The frustration you experienced was most likely due to that, and for that I am sorry. -Jay]

4red3s, likely the few people who are playing the game, just caught the server on a lucky break, and once they've gotten the Flash file loaded, they can play as much as they want, no matter how the server is doing, since the Flash file is loaded into memory then.

That, or they have made a pact with the Devil.

And I second what stupidcheeseboy said. :D

Complete walkthrough!

Full Walkthrough here:

1.

Look under couch - take stick.

2.

Look at top left of couch, take star.

3.

Click on plant. Where would you hide a green square?

a.

It's at the top left of the plant.

4.

Look at side table. Lift book, take scrap of paper. If you look at the other side of the paper it has animals on it. Why?

5.

Look to the right of the sideboard. Nothing in the bin, but is there something behind the sideboard?

a.

Take stick from behind sideboard. Combine sticks in inventory.

6.

Open middle drawer. Take green paper.

7.

Lift the dog picture. Notice the button. Why is that there?

8.

Notice there's a combination lock needing three numbers on the right-hand door.

9.

Look at shape sorter. Use yellow star and green square with sorter.

10.

Lift bear. Another button. What does that do?

11.

Look at fish picture. Notice wonky nail.

12.

Lift ball. Notice the bump under the rug?

a.

Lift the rug, take the blue triangle.

13.

Use the blue triangle with the shape sorter.

14.

Look at the yellow box. Has a scrap of paper slipped behind the red box? Look at the paper - what does the arrow pointing to the track in front of the train mean?

a.

Count 8 sleepers in front of the train - take the sleeper. Why would that come loose?

b.

Examine the sleeper - Aha! A key!

15.

Return to the sideboard. Unlock the top drawer with the key. Take the scissors - what can I cut with those?

16.

Cut string from shape sorted with scissors. What can I tie with this?

17.

Tie sticks together to form a long stick.

18.

Use the long stick to open the loft hatch above the glass blocks. A key falls down!

19.

Use key with red box. An origami book?

20.

Look all the way through the book.

a.

ALL the way. Hurrah! Another key!

21.

Look at paper in inventory. Cool! I can make an origami crane now!

22.

Unlock bottom drawer with key. Take mallet.

23.

What can I use this with? Aha! Piggy bank!

24.

Or not… Maybe you should whack the piggy bank a few more times just to be sure…

25.

A coin should have jumped out and landed by the bin?

26.

Ahh, I bet that fits in the shape sorter...

27.

Or not... Maybe you should look more closely at the coin?

28.

Ah - 3 numbers, I know where I can use those!

29.

But the cupboard is empty, what was the point of that?

30.

Wait! Click near the top of the cupboard, there's something taped to the ceiling!

31.

Use the red square with the shape sorter. Take pliers. I'm sure I can use those somewhere…

32.

Use pliers on the wonky nail.

33.

Another button! This one turns a light on, illuminating a strange shape on the back of the picture frame…

34.

The origami crane fits perfectly over the shape. Now what?

35.

Oooh. There's now a shadow on the far wall.

36.

If you look at the shadow more closely there's a button concealed at the tail of the shadow. Now, what order should I use to press the buttons?

37.

Follow the order indicated by the animals on the scrap of paper.

a.

The button behind the fish picture.

b.

The button under the bear.

c.

The button under the dog picture.

d.

The button on the shadow-crane's tail.

38.

The button behind the fish picture. Oooh, the lights have gone off!

39.

And now the glass blocks are illuminated. But I don't seem to be able to do anything with them…

40.

And I don't seem to be able to interact with anything else in the room... except…

41.

The left-hand door of the sideboard! I've now got a panel with buttons! And a coin-slot!

42.

Hmm. I'm sure I've seen a pattern like this before…

43.

Check the other side of the piece of paper with the animals on it.

44.

The green squares are pressed in buttons… but whose to say that you're holding the paper the correct way around?

45.

But that doesn't work either.

46.

Hang on, there's a light shining through, reflecting on the glass blocks! The pattern needs to be reversed!

47.

At last, the key to the door! Hurrah!

One more thing: Room escape is one of my favourite game genres so I'm more than happy that it got a regular appearance place, just like LDF's. Another great decision.

Thank You Jay! It is closing time here and I came back just to see if anything had changed. New Links! Yippee!

No time to play now. Maybe tomorrow at lunch. This place sure makes my day better.

Oh and I really like the way your site got "flipped"! Very nice.

Room escape games every week sounds like heaven!

I love Neutral's other games, so I was really excited to see this! It was short and fun, but a big heavy on the pixel hunting for me. I hate when I have the right idea but give up because I was a few pixels off....

I'm not sure why this worked, but since I get the error page each time I follow the link, I tried going to the website and going to the game from there. That worked well, so I tried pasting the link and putting it into the address bar, and that works too. So for some reason it's only the link from JiG that doesn't work.

[Edit: It was pure coincidence, there is nothing wrong with following the links from JIG. The server is just very busy. A 503 error means the requested URL is temporarily out of service.

Reply

Thanks DLand for a flawless walkthrough.

I noticed some issues with spoilers working/not working, so just for the record, they worked fine for me using XP and browsing with IE7.

I also want to say that the new JIG "bloggy" look is great. The Rob Allen banner will be missed but such are the ways of progress :-)

Refresh, refresh, refresh, bingo! Click. Now Loading . . . groan. Browse through some comments, look around a little, and progress is . . . still that same tiny sliver. Let's see, if it's 6:30 pacific time, that means it's prime evening game playing time all across the US. Hmm, perhaps I'll try again tomorrow. Or next week. Or just let me know when they improve server capacity. Looks like a pretty game and all, but gosh, code lighter or beef up the server / connection. Oh well, I'm terrible at find-the-pixel games anyway :).

Reply

I like most of the redesign, but after using it for a while, I'm still not fond of the gray bars for the spoilers. The bars all the way across strike me as dividers. (I was also kind of fond of changing the design scheme when I felt like it.)

Reply

Oh, forgot to mention, also not to terribly fond of the slow reveal on the spoilers. Picky me, I know. I'm always the first to disable that menu option in Microsoft products. :)

Reply

OrigamiMarie - the "sliver" happened to me once as well, reloading the browser window fixed it.

Reply

I liked that game quite a bit. Things made sense, no random clicking. Very well put together. I thought the light puzzle reflection was cool, too.

Reply

I'll say it again!
I want a room-escape-game where the player moves smoothly around in 3D space, is capable of performing actions such as "look at the other side of this object" and has a number of clearly defined actions available to him, replacing "click" which means "do SOMETHING here".

You could have "Examine", "push", "pull", "strike"; which would cover things like breaking objects open, searching for hollow spaces in walls, stuff like that; and then a few more actions for fine manipulation of objects...
...and also in addition to merely "combining" an inventory object with something else in the room or in your inventory, you could specify that you would USE the object to help you perform an existing available action.
So you could USE a magnet to PULL a metal tab out from some object.

Reply

The best thing about this game (to me) is that I probably would fold the piece of paper into a crane without getting any indication that it's the right thing to do. I make those things all the time.

Reply
OrigamiMarie June 25, 2008 11:36 PM

Thank you Jay for the page reload tip. I hit refresh and the game loaded just fine. I liked this one, partly because I was actually able to do it without any hints! Usually I end up resorting to spoilers, and I almost did at one or two points along the way, but then an aha happened and I found the next step. Just a few funny things from my session:

Funny, was that a rubber piggy-bank?

I kept trying to break those glass blocks with the hammer. I made sure to save each time before trying it though, since I figured it would be permanent.

When I figured out that I was supposed to fold a crane, I was holding the hammer. So I must have given it really good creases. Okay, so I kept reusing the hammer since it didn't disappear after the correct usage . . .

This wasn't one of my all time favorite room escape/point-and-click games ever, but I must add my kudos for the new Wednesday pointy-clicky happiness which will ensue...especially after a dearth of challenging games in favor of shmups and platformers. I think I went 2 weeks at one point without playing ANYTHING that wasn't on my favorites list! Now I know I will at least have one day a week that will be something interesting!

(I know you were busy working on the new design, Jay, so the overload of those games wasn't your fault! Since you've been back I've had a lot more gameplay here than I did for a while)

let me start by saying weekday escape is the best idea ever. room escape/point & clicks are what brought me into this site years ago. this website has grown a lot since then, great job jay and the whole community that's made a difference in this site! keep up the good work and good luck!

p.s.: great, fun little game, i liked the simplicity of it. there were no stretches of logic, and the pixel hunting was there, but not in arbitrary, illogical areas. it made sense to me, and the only thing i had trouble with was

finding the green square (from the sound of previous posts, the shapes are randomized) in the tree. boy did i feel stupid =/

p.p.s.: i may have stumble into a site glitch... the last 2 times i previewed this post, my cursor turned into an hourglass permanently until i reloaded the page. during this time, i couldn't hit submit.

[Edit: Thank you! ^_^ We are aware of the hourglass problem, but it shouldn't prevent you from submitting. In fact, I just deleted the other two copies of this comment that made it through. We have a couple of glitches still to iron out. Cheers! -Jay]

JonMW: I think most text adventure games have what you're looking for in terms of commands but they don't have any visuals to go along with them (but don't quote me on this because I've only played "9:05" featured here at JIG).

One thing always bugs me with these kind of games - the fact that you often have to click at some arbitrary point in the still image so you can look "behind the couch" or "under the seat of the chair". If I open the cupboard, it's fairly gimmicky for the game to show me the "wrong" angle on purpose and then make me to click "somewhere around the top" so I can see it from another angle and grab the item I want.

Granted, this game's pixel hunt spots are fairly big, and thankfully enough there is no parts where you have to blindly click a bland section of the wall to discover a "mysterious secret compartment". But I still got frustrated from the overuse of click-on-the-right-spot mechanic and a certain lack of visual information and logic. Just one example - you see a picture hung on a twisted nail which looks like it could be easily pulled out with a breath, yet you must get the exact right tool for the job ; God forbid you just yank the picture hard or hit it with the hammer. Furthermore, the tool in question is hidden in such a contrived way one must wonder if the guy locked in the room really wants to escape at all or just wants to have some fun playing with colourful blocks.

Bottom line, this is still a nice example of the genre, and most of the really serious plagues of room escapers are nicely avoided. Still, it rehashes same old button-sequence-pushing and camera-angle-puzzles a bit too much for my liking.

Just some food for thought:

This was a fairly easy game to beat. Only got stuck once or twice, and mostly cause I wasn't keeping my eyes open.

Now, the developer of the game specifically pleaded for people to refrain from posting complete walkthroughs or direct solutions, cause it ruins their motivation.

Anyone noticed this? Anyone gave it a thought?
How many games have you solved without walkthroughs? How hard have you tried? How fun is that?

Of course, you can always choose not to read a walkthrough, and all, but I'm just questioning what we are giving in return to the people who give us great games. For free.

A dime for your thoughts.

Do you know where the picture header for the weekday is from?

baba,

you go:

"you see a picture hung on a twisted nail which looks like it could be easily pulled out with a breath, yet you must get the exact right tool for the job"

I guess that's one of the back sides of adventure games we have to live with. I remember Sanitarium, an old PC adventure game (and,m IMHO, one of the best ever) where i had to cut a garden hose from the tap and had a sharp knife but couldn't for the life of me cut the damn thing off until i found a pair of scissors :) Also, when you're facing a wall thjat's like neck high but you only can go throu it at the gate, never climb or jump over it - or a two foot wide stream you can only cross thru a bridge... Adventure games arer like this and I guess it's easily understood why.

I'm always stunned by Neutral's production values. This looks so much better than most of the escape-the-room games out there. Maybe it's shallow, but I find good visuals draw me in and make the game that much more enjoyable.

Yes, this was relatively simple, but I had fun.

I was wondering, is there a way to change the different skins on JIG.

Reply
Strangelander June 26, 2008 9:51 AM

Hey, I'm a graphic designer, and I have a quick thought on the Weekday Escape banner: English readers, and most JIG readers (except from Middle East, Japan, and maybe a few other places) scan from left to right. In graphic design, this means that the most important information, the image we want to leave with the client, goes on the right. Flip through a magazine's ads, you'll see that all the logos are in the bottom right-hand corner. Likewise, any sequential information goes from left to right, most logo's arrows are pointing "forward" from left to right, etc.

So, I suggest mirroring the banner image (except for the type), thus making a progression from dude stuck in a room, to "Weekend Escape," then tropical paradise.

Reply

JonMW--I agree...if I had time to learn Flash I would be making room escape and other p-and-c games like that: less tied to the norms of the genre and more intent on delivering a logical experience. I've played one or two that were like that and found them addicting, so I keep playing in the hopes that I'll find more.

Reply
ThemePark June 26, 2008 11:06 AM

Phew, sure a lot of comments I want to comment on!

JonMW:
What you want is basically an oldschool adventure game bred with a room escape game. It's an interesting thought, but I don't see it happening, as using all those commands IMO would become a lot more tedious than just clicking an object in your inventory, then clicking the place you want to use it.

But you might want to look into games like the Wanpa's Quest series. They have a little bit of what you want.

baba44713:
Let's say we do it your way. Let's say we could just yank out that nail. Let's say all the things we needed would be located in the most logical place, i.e. the first place we'd think to look. And let's say you didn't need tools, books etc. to do a lot of things.

Think about it. How long would such a game take to get through? A few minutes at most, and then you'd forget all about it, because it wasn't really much of a challenge.

Granted, there are room escape games that are horribly illogical with massive pixel hunts etc. But the whole point to any room escape game is to search the room for items that will aid you in your escape. If it was just as easy as walking out the door, it wouldn't be much of an escape, right?

Room escape games has much of a McGyveresque feel to them. Search everywhere, combine odd things, use them, find more things etc. That's what makes these games fun to play.

Plus, specifically with the nail, you can't know how long it is, thus how far into the wall it goes, what it's made of, how well it's stuck in the wall or anything. So getting it out the way you do makes as much sense as just yanking it out.

iLKke:
I'll take that dime. :) It is very common for Japanese room escape developers to ask people to refrain from posting walkthroughs and some times hints. Some developers just put a date after which you are free to post a walkthrough.

Usually their intention with this seems to be to allow for people to have fun with playing the game, and not feeling cheated out of a good experience by resorting to a walkthrough. I guess that comes with the Japanese politeness, and my guess is that they really, more than so many other developers, make these games for US, the gamers, than for themselves.

Personally I respect their wish to not have a walkthrough posted, but I also believe it is up to the individual person to decide whether or not to use a walkthrough, not the developer.

If I'm playing a game and I get hopelessly stuck (and that happens a lot for me, especially with my low patience), and I really can't think of any solution (which I experienced in this game as well), I want to be able to use a walkthrough to push me that step further so I can continue to enjoy and play the game.

Reading walkthroughs doesn't ruin my fun. Being hopelessly stuck does.

bioLarzen:
Those mentions are very valid though, I must say. If you have something at hand already that can get the job done, it doesn't make much sense to need one particular item to do the job. But in the case of the stream, you could argue that you don't know how deep the stream is, and you probably wouldn't want to get yourself soaking wet.

Architectonic:
It is not shallow at all. On the contrary, it is applaudable. That is the same reason why I like Neutral's games so much, and also a point that was made in the reviews of his first two games, RGB and Sphere.

The market is flooded with room escape game, I'll admit. And loads of them are made with crappy graphics, to say the least. Then there are the alright games, that feature some nice graphics, but nothing in particular. And then there's these, where the developer actually thinks as much about the game's design as the logic and the gameplay. And those are always the best kind of room escape games to play.

So fortunately Neutral has found a little niché for him to call his own, and that he will hopefully continue. Beautiful graphics have come to be his trademark, much like cute graphics and great gameplay has become On's, and simple games with simple ideas and simple gameplay has become tonypa's.

Did you fold the piece of paper and put it on the back of the fish painting before you started pressing the buttons in order? If you do that, you'll find that after you press the dog button, a silhouette will be lit up on one wall. You have to find the button on the tip of the wing of the shadow.

And all lights should have gone off - except for in one other place. See where the spotlight is and click on that.

There's one last puzzle to finish before you get out of the room.

There's a walkthrough earlier in comments, that should help.

In response to JonMW's "thread," Myst IV does a good job of you actually having to pull levers, drag stuff around, etc. You even have to turn the pages of the books you read :D
That's not to mention that the scenes are all in full 3D with smooth camera panning. The only thing wrong with the game is that it costs money, although it's well worth the price.

Let's figure out this secret ending business... so we're all on the same page here:

1.

Put the key in the door

2.

Open the door

3.

Return to the trap door in the ceiling

4.

Click the ceiling cat

5.

Throw the hammer into the hole

So far what I have tried:
-

Repeatedly clicking on the chick that falls into the yellow box

-

Pushing the buttons in the same order as on the paper

-

Pushing the buttons in the opposite order on the paper

-

There are those 2 pages in the Origami book that have orange scribbles...I wonder if they are significant?

-

What about that clock on the wall? I'm yet to figure out what to do with it...

so far I have gotten:
NOWERE. lol.

Related to waldrich's notes on the secret ending (no huge amazing stuff here)

The chick is related to another game of his. If you click on 'Neutral' you go to

http://neutralx0.net/home/

and see his other game 'tower of chicks'. His comment on 2008.10.18 says to play 'tower of chicks' first "because the escape game is intimately related to it". I don't think anything magical happens if you play the games in combination but I might be wrong.

After completing the whole game, before going out of the door... I went back to the ceiling opening to recheck, and there was a green animal looking at me, when I clicked to it, it ran away!! But I dont know if it was just a joke or there is another "real" exit after it... Anybody knows about it?

If you're not sure whether you're really done, remember what it said back at the first page of the game:

"...Neutral's character "Wasabi(cat)" and "Hiyo(chick)" are hiding in this room. (they are not related to escape.) Try to find them if you have time."

The red circle is in the cabinet that seems empty, click near the top of the cabinet and you will see a red circle taped to the top of the inside.

Very easy based on hunt and click. Has potential for challenging logic puzzles.

Did anyone try to open that other cabinet that's missing a knob? Because I'm trying to, but I don't know how. I already got the key and opened the door, but I know there's more to the game that the walkthroughs don't mention. How do I know this, you ask? Because when I retrieved the key to the door, I clicked the up button to look up and saw a bunny, or something looking down at me. And when I clicked on it, it disappeared, but a chick (the same chick from Christmas escape 3) fell into the bin below it. I don't know what to do next. Please help

Oh wow, my code was 666... Not the sort of code you'd expect from a playroom! D:
