theprivacy.gifThe Privacy is another Flash point-and-click adventure from the stellar Gotmail team that gave us The Bar, Il Destino, The Salon and others. This game is set in a high-tech, big-brother world where even the watchers are watched and elaborate security systems are commonplace.

As with other games by these talented Japanese Flash game developers, literary references can be found lying about within this game, such as George Orwell's "1984" and JD Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye", an easy means of channeling a narrative into well-traveled territory without having to actually provide much narrative content. The game leverages the power of suggestion to its advantage.

Of course the real stars of these games are the phenomenal photo-realistic environments created from 3D models, and the high-tech theme of the game sets the stage for some absolutely stunning visuals. It is quite evident that much attention to detail went into making this gorgeous game.

I was not a fan of their previous work, The Bar. Although beautiful and stunning in its own right, the puzzles were awkward and the solutions to some were not very logical at all. I am pleased to say that the design team has learned much from their previous work thus making The Privacy one of their best efforts so far. I especially liked the fact that every puzzle has a logical solution and none were too difficult to solve on ones own. An excellent diversion for anyone that enjoys these types of games.

Play The Privacy

Cheers to Cobber for suggesting the game. =)

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Since I haven't seen a full walkthrough posted yet, I thought I would make one to those who would like one.
Full walkthrough:

  1. Click on the computer on the left. Underneath the keyboard in the blue keycard. Go back a screen.

  2. Underneath the monitor of the right computer is a receiver. Note the fountain pen on the left side of the keyboard. Head back to the starting screen.

  3. Turn right past the revolving doors to the next set of computers. The left computer holds an antenna in the pen holder and the yellow keycard in the CD/DVD drive. Back up one screen.

  4. Underneath the desk of the computer on the right has a white keycard with some wired attached. Head back a screen.

  5. Turn right and head towards the computers facing the large windows and the starry night. The computer on the left has a unicorn statue hiding behind the computer, and a blue cell phone underneath the desk. Grab both then go back a screen.

  6. Turn right and you come to a locked glass door with a security lock. Use the yellow keycard to open the door (click on the item then on the control panel). Go through the door.

  7. The first computer holds nothing of interest. The next one has a laser pointer underneath the keyboard.

  8. The third computer's monitor has a puzzle you must solve. The rules for it are simple enough: Connect each of the colored wires, none of the wires can cross over themselves, and each color has a priority (red has to be on top of all others, blue underneath all, and yellow in the middle). To solve it do the following (order from left to right, if two squares are in the same column, the top one is stated first):

    • Click 3 times.

    • Click 2 times.

    • Click 1 time.

    • Click 4 times.

    • Click 4 times.

    • Click 1 time.

    • Click 1 time.

    • Click 2 times.

When finished, click "Enter" to receive the ID. It'll be saved in your items list. Exit the monitor.

  9. Now combine the receiver and the antenna (select the receiver, then hit the "About Items" button, now select the antenna and click the receiver on the screen).

  10. Now select the newly fixed receiver and then click on the phone to find a wire tap. Head back a couple of screens to the main room.

  11. To the left of the big windows is a set of computers we passed by earlier. The one on the right has a digital clock next to it. Use the receiver to find a wire tap. Back out two screens.

  12. Go right two screens and you should be back at the starting screen. Use the receiver on the fountain pen from before to find the third and final wire tap. Now take a look at the receiver to get the Password. It'll be saved next to the ID in your item list. Head back to the start screen.

  13. Use the left computer monitor to access the surveillance satellite. Enter in the ID and Password to shutdown the monitoring. Head back out to the start screen.

  14. Turn right once and head up the stairs. The laser field that was blocking your path is now gone. Head to the end of the walkway to the door. Use the blue keycard and then the blue cell phone to open the door. Grab the phone before going through the door.

  15. When you enter, turn around and go to the one computer in the room. You must now solve the "What is different?" puzzle. The puzzle changes for each game, so you'll have to just keep trying 'til you get it.

  16. (Does this puzzle remind anyone of those Highlights magazines that you always looked through while waiting for the dentist? Too bad this one isn't already solved like all those were.)

  17. After receiving the access code, look on top of the computer and pick up a grey plug. Connect the grey plug to the white keycard with the wires, then the blue cell phone to the grey plug (all done the same way that the receiver and antenna were connected).

  18. Go to the locked glass door behind you and used the newly made keycard/cell phone and the new access code to open the door.

  19. Go to the end of the corridor, past the light switch. On the floor will be a white cross shape. Place the unicorn statue on it and backtrack to the light switch.

  20. Flip the light and head back to the unicorn statue to find a light shining on it. Use the laser pointer and click on the spot on the floor where the shadow ends. A cut scene shows a platform rising out of the ground.

  21. Grab the red cell phone, flip the light back on (anyone else notice that the platform disappears all of a sudden?) then head back downstairs to the revolving doors that are next to the stairs (you'll need to enter the access code again to get through the door).

  22. Take the blue cell phone off of the grey plug and take the red memory card out of it and put it into the red cell phone

  23. Activate the screen of the red cell phone and start the "Key Generator." Now select the red cell phone and then click the red light above the revolving doors to open them.

  24. Don't go through the revolving doors, but instead head to the door under the stairs. At the control panel of the door in front of you, use the red cell phone to unlock it, then head through the door.

Finished!

Boy, this one is tough! In their striving to be ultra-modern in looks, I'm afraid they've taken transparency a bit too far. You'll find yourself clicking on reflections, or mistaking where you are because you are seeing through glass. No spoilers yet, though.

My first time posting!!! I have been lurking for a couple of weeks though. I've made it pretty far, which is suprising for me, I'm upstairs, but I've missed something and for the life of me haven't found it yet!!!!!!

Once you get rolling it's pretty easy. Here's a hint

you have to de-bug the room as you go with something you've picked up

de-bug the items that when you click on them tell you what they are but don't do anything

WOW!!!!!! I can't believe I posted spoilers.....I usually need everyone else's!!!

Great game Jay! I really enjoyed the graphics and the fact that there is a map of where I am in relation to the room on the bottom.
BTW... Has anyone figured out how to combine items?

Reply

Welcome, Heavinlyn! =)

And cheers, HassleFree! =)

Combine items by first clicking on one item, then click the "about items" button to view it. Then click on another item to combine it with the one being viewed.

Reply
Hassle Free June 12, 2006 10:38 PM

Oh *hits head on table* duh, thanks for the help Jay!

Reply

Geez! No spoilers yet...
I'm not sure I like the graphics of that game... They are too much details...

Anyway... Found
the black machine and its antenna
a unicorn.
And that's pretty much it...
If anyone can help...

Anyone notice one of the computer screens show's the room from Il Destino? It can be hard to tell, as the car is missing from the center of the room.

Good game, but i'm just getting started.

haha now I need help,

has anyone figured out that pipeline thing? I match up the colors the way they say to but nothing happens...

wasn't sure if I needed that but thought that I would just in case.

Reply

i don't know if i have the

pipeline thing right, things look like they match up, but then again, i wonder if you have to have all the blues under the yellows, then under the reds, even on the crossings you can't change?

/frustrated

Reply

>.> I dunno..but this is all i have found for the wire taps..

The Clock and the phone...

I can't find any others..help?

Reply

Hassle - The wire/pipe connection thing also has an order to it - the Red wires must be on top, with no wires crossing over it. Next down is Yello (which therefore must be UNDER all red wires, and over all blue) - and then Blue, which must not cross over any at all.

Reply

Don't forget, the wires cannot cross themselves and they have to be red on top of yellow on top of blue.
still trying to figure that part out

Reply

I tried the color thing too and it didn't work either... There is something about priority of color but i tried all combinations and always failed...

Reply

Pipeline puzzle:

begin with Blue, since that must be on the bottom. Then move to Yellow, and finally to Red. Working from the bottom up was good for me and I solved it with little trouble, but admittedly it made my eyes nuts for a while(!)

The 3rd elusive wiretap:

check the fountain pen next to the keyboard at the workstation to the immediate left of the stairs going up. The pen is hard to see.

Reply

This is my first time posting here. Usually I visit the site late enough that if I have problems, other people have already had them and have had them consequently solved.

Anyway, yes, with the wires, the red must be on top, not only on the intersections you place, but also on the intersections already placed.

I'm missing five items, and I've yet to combine any of them. I'll figure out what to do with this unicorn yet, and I'll find that black machine thingy eventually.

Reply

For the pipe puzzle,

No wire can cross over itself. Not even once. Check to make sure that the wires aren't crossing over themselves somewhere. Also, the priority is important.

Reply

Kairi:

There is a fountain pen just left of a keyboard. There is one inside of it...

Reply

i don't know the exact order of boxes i clicked on that pipeline puzzle, but i did solve it. you get an id when you win.

ID code:

290S615

i don't know if you have to beat it yourself or what, but there it is. :P

Reply

remember, the same-coloured wires cannot cross over themselves (ie. red cannot cross other parts of the red).

i have found 2 wiretaps. i'm pretty stuck now. must keep poking at things.

Orion, you're right!! some computer screens show the games gotmail issued before!

So far I've got:

a laser pen
a long thin stuff
a walkie talkie which can connect that long thin thing
unicorn
celluphoe
2 key cards
a memory card form phone

I'm stuck with the pipe game, and the user name and password of the stellite system!! Does the password related to "1984" (the book name) and the clock?

Reply

Oh how frustrating... I was running upstairs, convinced I could get to the 2nd floor and I bumped on a locked door... :P

Reply

I've gotten upstairs and the red cell phone and new key.
I have also opened the turning doors..but.. can't get through those yet.

Reply

Mayee you got a cell phone??? Where did you find it?

Reply
OrionBlack June 12, 2006 11:34 PM

Mayee, you're missing the third key card, which has a computer cable attached to it,

which is underneath one of the desks.

Reply

The Red Cell Phone is

upstairs by the flashlight with the unicorn. It points to a spot which you use the laser pointer to open. Then you can create a key out of hte memory card.

hope that is useful

Reply

I'm not yet sure the 1984 has to do with anything but the theme of the game.

You get the ID when you solve the wire puzzle. The password comes from the black device you use to find the wiretaps. Once you've found all three, just look at it dirrectly.

Reply

I seem to be in about the same spot as Orion... and am confused about Kairi's comment about

it being a fake door? Meaning it opens but what's inside is pointless, or that unlocking whatever at that door actually gives me access to the hidden downstairs door under the stairs?

Arikiko, you say you're at the first door upstairs? That door requires:

The blue keycard and

The blue phone with

the red memory card inside it.

The second door upstairs (the one with the buttons to push) requires:

The keycard with wires, the gray connector, and the blue phone with the red memory card inside. They should all be connected.

After that,

Use the password you got from the computer in that room.
